Office Attire For A Vintage Girl
By day I work full time as a graphic designer. Since before Rag & Magpie was born I have worked in several corporate offices and creative studios in the heart of London. It's all very exciting and proper and quite a different thing to commuting to your spare room and occasionally working in one’s pyjamas.
Way back when I moved from freelancing from my kitchen to my first design job in a corporate office for one of The Big Four I spent the first week struggling with one question...What does a vintage girl wear in a corporate workplace?
I am not one for the ‘I work in a bank’ look and can barely walk in the type of plain black stilettos that seemed to be sported by all the other suit-clad ladies around the office. And so I have had to think creatively about what to wear to work on a budget, alternating three new blouses, a black pencil skirt from the high street and a fitted charcoal skirt suit I had bought for ten pounds about twelve years earlier. Then my first payday came, along with the opportunity to select the most office-friendly vintage and vintage style attire from Etsy.com, eBay and London's Brick Lane.
Here are the right are my favourites from Etsy, all worn with a court shoe and a vintage coat of course!
As you can see, for me it’s all about 1940’s silhouette, a cinched waist, pencil skirt and vintage detailing. Essentially I have delusions of being Agent Carter.
What is your perfect office look? Leave us a comment or show us your work selfies on Instagram, we’d love to see!
