Vintage Tan Leather Bowling Bag Holdall c.30s-40s
Vintage Tan Leather Bowling Bag Holdall c.30s-40s
This large tan vintage leather bag is big enough for the vintage-loving lady why likes to pack the kitchen sink for a day out, or as a weekender bag for the lady or chap who packs light.
Bowling bag style: semicircular with a handle on each side
Thick yet supple porous leather
Fastens with a 1930s-1940s Lightning zip pull, the same model seen on 1940s WW2 RAF Irvin flying jackets and 1930s RAF flying suits. Though the back itself could date later.
Coated woven piping
The interior is the suede side of the outer leather, unlined.
Size
43cm x 14.5cm x 25cm.
Handles measure 28cm from D-ring to D-ring.
Brand
No makers mark or labels.
Condition
Good condition, with wear relative to age. Handles sturdy and in great working order with moderate wear and some tarnishing to the metal findings. The coating on the woven piping is worn away (about half remains). The rich tan finish is lost to much of the upper portion of the bag, the original colour can be seen on the base. Leather and piping are significantly worn at bottom corners. There is a pinhole (1-2mm) in the base edge next to the piping. The end tabs covering the zips are dog-eared. There are various marks and discolourations, most notably a darker brown area in one corner of the base where it looks as though the leather has been damaged by liquid; on the same end, on one side, there is an area where the leather is more rigid with a slight grey-ish cast.
